The science of light
Jyotiṣa comes from jyoti, light. It is one of the six Vedāṅgas, the limbs that support the Veda, and the tradition calls it the eye of the Veda: it is there to help you see.
It began with timing rituals by the sky and grew into a way of understanding individual lives. Its classical texts, such as the Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra of the sage Parāśara and the Upadeśa Sūtras of the sage Jaimini, are still studied and taught from teacher to student today.
